It is a principle contractor’s duty to:
Request health and safety specifications from a client
Develop a comprehensive health and safety file in accordance to client’s health and safety specifications
Prepare a risk assessment for proposed construction work
Provide the client’s health and safety specifications to contractors that will be used for the project
Appoint contractors in writing
Stop any contractor who are not performing activities in accordance with client’s health and safety specifications
Conduct monthly audits and document verifications on contractors

Liaise directly with the client on behalf of the principle contractor and contractors
On behalf of the principle contractor and contractors, prepare and implement, a site specific health and safety file in accordance with client’s health and safety specifications.
